Watain’s members met in 1999. The guitarist used to listen to his sibling's music constantly as a kid. Watain began singing at Cafeteria, a local club. The band used to sell their tapes out of their car on the street.

Watain signed the record deal, but were not expecting the next step to be any easier. The band plays plenty of arenas, but would rather play in the smaller venues in which they started.

Watain accepted that the possibility of living life as actual musicians was a real possibility in 1984, when Debbie Emerson started the group’s first fan club. Starting out with just a few dozen members in San Francisco, the fan club quickly grew with group’s national tour and the launching of the band’s website by Patricia Hart.

Watain will take some time off after this next tour, allowing the band members to pursue individual projects. The group is in the second leg of the promotional tour for their latest album. Watain's most current record has been heavily influenced by bands of the '80s.

Often times, critics will commend Watain for their ability to energize the audience during live performances. Phoenix music critic Wally Lewis has always been a fan of group’s sincere songs. Watain’s most current release is the group’s best received record yet.
