The members of Waterboys met in middle school. The guitarist used to listen to his father's music constantly as a teenager. The lead singer used to annoy his uncle by playing his favorite cassette tape too loud. Waterboys began playing at the local club Ideal. Frank Sinatra heavily influenced the early work of the band.
