The members of Waterson Carthy were friends in college. The drummer use to listen to records constantly as a kid. The bassist used to listen to radio constantly as a teenager. Waterson Carthy started performing at Yard, a college bar. Earth, Wind, and Fire heavily influenced the early work of the band.

After the single hit the airwaves and blew up, Waterson Carthy were still afraid they’d be a one hit wonder. The group really enjoys performing and is playing almost nightly in front of fans. Waterson Carthy was discovered while joking around, performing on the street one day. The groupstarted headlining shows as soon as they started playing together.

Waterson Carthy realized they had finally made it in 1995, when Shirley Neilson started the group’s first fan club. Initially the band only had a few fans from Cincinnati in the club, but after playing from California to New York the fan club’s membership exploded to a few thousand.
