Every year, WE Fest is one Omaha’s biggest festivals. In 1978, the tour was started after the city decided it needed a big act to bring tourists in to jump start the local economy. Quintin Wolbert came up with the specifics for WE Fest while listening to his favorite tape. The new event did not receive much financial support or much advertising, so the festival started out pretty small, with a lot of local performers..

It took three years, but eventually WE Fest began to establish itself as a premeir event The tour started to get more acts that had made a name for themselves around the country and it began to warrant the kind of attention its creators dreamed it would receive one day. Hotel rooms in the city were soon being filled months in advance for the dates around WE Fest.

WE Fest now sells out months in advance, with tickets generally gone before the first week of their being released. The tour is now so big that just about any group will say yes if asked to perform. The organizers of the tour have not forgotten where they’ve come from though, and always ask local artists to play the smaller stages. WE Fest used to be concerned with getting enough acts to fill out the bill, but now is starting to worry of the event is getting too big.
