Y100 Jingle Ball began playing together in 1990. The lead singer was encouraged to play by his mom. The drummer was influenced by his brother's love of music. Y100 Jingle Ball began singing at the local dive bar City. The band was influenced by Aerosmith.

A member of Y100 Jingle Ball started dating a girl whose motherwas a record executive. She passed the single on to them and the band signed a record deal soon after.
