Yamaya began singing at Chum, a local dive bar. The drummer wanted to start a band since he was in middle school. The drummer used to fall asleep with a cassette tapeplaying as a teenager. Yamaya’s members grew up together. The band was influenced by the Kinks.

Yamaya was discovered while joking around, performing on the street one day. The band group played festivals, parties, bars, really just about anywhere that would take them. Yamaya’s first album failed to sell, but the second album saved them from obscurity.

The latest release from Yamaya is the group's third record.

The band recently completed their new project, but they are already planning the next release. After this past non-stop year the members of Yamaya will take a break.
