AT&T National Tickets
Held in Washington D.C. the AT&T National is a pro golfing tournament. The AT&T National takes place on the American Independence day (Fourth of July) weekend. Now the PGA tour is actually hosted by the great long time champion Tiger woods and the proceeds of that tournament goes to the Tiger Woods foundation. In 2007 the first AT&T national was held on July 5-8, the event was held at the Blue Course which is of the Congressional Country Club located in Bethesda, Maryland. Later the AT&T National was returned to Congressional in 2008 and in 2009 and it is also held midway right between the PGA’s U.S. Open as well as the British Open golf tournament which is mainly to ensure that there are strong competitors.
The defending champion of the AT&T National is Tiger Woods and he also won the 2009 AT&T National with a score of -13. The AT&T national event was originally announced on March 7, 2007 to initially replace the international which the officials had for some reason abruptly cancelled on February 8, 2007. However, interestingly, the AT&T National does not include the same Modified Stableford scoring that the International in Colorado did.
The regular event is hosted in the D.C area and has been doing so for almost a quarter of a century. First the Booz Allen Classic arrived in the 80s but later was terminated right after the 2006 event. Now this was originally called the Kemper Open and was played from 1980-86 at the congressional and then later moved to the near TPC at Avenel by 1987. Later in 2005 again the event was hosted by Congressional while the prior i.e. Avenel was being renovated.
The Congressional agreed to host the AT&T National during the first two years and then later after they opted out of hosting the 2009 U.S. Amateur they agreed to host the event later in 2009 too. Now this is interesting because the newly renovated Aronimink Golf club is going to be the place where the latest 2010 and 2011 AT&T National will be held. This is probably been done because of the Congressional hosting the 2011 U.S open later the tournament will then make a come back here for 2012 and stay there by 2014.
Now there also were a number of other golf courses which were considered for the AT&T National which included the Kansas City, Minneapolis-Saint Paul as well as the Portland areas. Also possible sites were for the 2010 and 2011 events were the TPC at Avenel which was in the neighboring Potomac which was the former site of the then great Booz Allen Classic also the Robert Trent Jones Golf Club in Virginia which hosted the president’s cup four times.
The AT&T National is covered by the golf channel and CBS which also is the third event on the PGA tour to be sponsored by AT&T. other events sponsored by AT&T are AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am and the AT&T classic which was formerly Bellsouth Classic.
