The HP Byron Nelson Championship is one of the most popular of golf tournaments on the PGA Tour calendar. The tournament is held every year between the months of April and May at one of the best golfing locations known as the Four Seasons Resort and Club Dallas located in Las Colinas a city of Irving, Texas, USA. Now the HP Byron Nelson Championship is one of the two main PGA tournaments which are held in the Dallas Forth Worth Metroplex, which also incidentally is the only metropolitan to host two PGA tournaments.

The HP Byron Nelson Championship is one of the leading fundraiser tournaments of the PGA Tour and raises well over $100 million. This is evident from the past two tours which grossed well over $100 million. The HP Byron Nelson Championship for many years was the only PGA tour event named after a pro golfer. Today its just one of two such events. The other of which is the Arnold Palmer Invitational. Nelson also commonly made his appearance during the HP Byron Nelson tournament.

Initially during the first few decades the HP Byron Nelson Championship was played in a number of courses in Dallas. Byron Nelson after whom the tournament is named after was the first winner of the tournament in 1944 when the tournament was played at the Lakewood country club. The year after that the tournament was held at the Dallas country club later in 1946 it moved to Glen Lake country Club after which it was played for a decade at the Oak Cliff Country Club from 1958 – 1967.

Later in 1968 the event was given a new name and this time it was called Byron nelson Golf Classic which was named through a number of sponsors. However the tournament has always been in conjunction with the great player’s name. The newly named event was played at the Preston Trial Golf Club where it was home for almost two decades from 1968 to 1982. Later in 1983 the event relocated to Venus, where it was played first at Las Colinas Sports Club from 1983 -85 and then it was played at the TPC from 1986 – 1993. During this period the HP Byron Nelson Championship was played by many big names as well as then unknown names in the golfing industry. However the tournament never saw a loss of interest from people who visited to see the HP Byron Nelson Championship.

Since the year 1994 the HP Byron Nelson Championship has always been played on two golf courses i.e. the Tournament players course and the cottonwood valley course both are located at the four seasons. However prior to that the TPC was the only one which was used, however because of the storm season of may which played havoc with the game and its schedule things had to change. This was one of the biggest reasons why the decision to add Cottonwood course was made, so that the weather didn’t get a chance to spoil the HP Byron Nelson Championship.
