In its 11th year, the World Chevron Challenge is going strong. The Challenge, presented by Bank of America, is scheduled for December 3rd through December 6th .Bringing the big names in golf to southern California, the World Chevron Challenge is set to go this year as well and will be played at the Sherwood Country Club located in Thousand Oaks. The tournament will help in raising money for the Tiger Woods Foundation, a charity that helps young people reach their dreams that otherwise may have been unattainable.

The Sherwood Country Club course was designed by none other than the golf champion Jack Nicklaus and will be a challenge to even the most seasoned and experienced players. The Chevron World Challenge, played during the off-season, will be hosted by Tiger Woods. The line up includes four major winners, a couple of special exemption players chosen by the Tiger Woods Foundation, the defending Champion, and eleven players from the Official World Golf Rankings. The purse is in the amount of $5.75 million dollars. The winner will take $1.35 million while the player ending in the 18th place will receive $150,000. The year 2009 will be the first year that the World Chevron Challenge, a limited field event, will be awarding World Golf Ranking points as well.

The champion of the 2008 Chevron World Challenge is Vijay Singh and he took the win with a birdie, moving into the winner's slot and taking the purse. Wins made like these are always exciting and will have spectators holding their breath until that ball drops in the hole. Spectators are asked to leave video cameras and cell phones at home and not to the course. A cell phone ringing could be the biggest break of concentration that a player can have. Take care while spectating to have respect for the players who are trying to concentrate on their shot. Indeed, those players would thank you if they could. The Tiger Woods foundation, supported through money raised by the Worlds Chevron Challenge, has to date helped over ten million young people and have really made a big, positive change in their lives.
