The John Deere Classic is actually a professional golf event of American origin which on the calendar of the PGA Tour. The John Deere Classic is played every year in the month of July, which is a week prior to the British Open Championship at the famous golf course in Silvis, Illinois called the TPC at Deere Run. The sponsor of this tournament is the Deere & Company which also hosts the tournament.
In recent years the John Deere Classic has managed to steer up much television viewership and air time as well as press attention especially because the sponsor’s exemption for the teen player Michelle Wie. If you look at the 2005 storyline it too revolves around a young and ambitions American golfer named Sean O’Hair. In this story the win he got later qualified him for the British Open the very next week and also became an important part of the PGA Rookie of the Year season.
The John Deere Classic was originally conceived in 1971 to 1974 and was originally played in Crow Valley Country Club located in Davenport, Iowa. Later however the tournament moved to the Oakwood Country Club located in Coal Valley, Illinois it stayed there from 1975 – 1999. Later it started being played at the TPC at Deere run in Silvis in the year 2000 where it is played to his day.
Now John Deere Classic has managed to strike a deal with the people at the PGA tour to keep it as a yearly event right up until 2010. However after the tournament sponsors are shuffled its possible that the date of the John Deere Classic is moved. The thing that will benefit the John Deere Classic a lot is the fact that if it’s moved out of the way of the British Open it can attract a sizable crowd and strong fields.
There is a lot being said about the sponsor’s exemption for the youngster Michelle Wie who started to play in the John Deere classic around the time of the PGA tour season. The effort that Wie was making like every young budding female golfer was to cut into men’s professional golfing events. Michelle Wie managed to strike an overall 1, and missed the cut by two strokes. The John Deere Classic has managed to attract thousands of visitors who are also fans who have flocked to see Michelle Wie play. Later Michelle Wie managed to get a sponsor’s exemption once again in 2006. This was the first male event she played in which took place earlier that year in Korea. She managed to finish the 6th round with a 6 over par which was well behind the projected cut line of -2. She also fell two strokes behind during the high heat of the second day and then later withdrew voluntarily from the tournament after the sighting of the 9th hole and heat exhaustion.
