The first tournament of People vs. The Pros Championship took place in Lake las Vegas Resort in the year 2004. The first People vs. The Pros Championship was televised live by the famous golf channel which is famous for covering all golfing events. In the first people vs. the pros Championship the great John Daly managed to defeat his amateur opponent however on the other hand another golfing legend Lee Trevino was beaten by 5&4 by an armature thus the concept was validated.

The People vs. The Pros Championship is often taken as one of those reality television shows except for here they play golf. However unlike reality television shows this is a sport that invites amateurs and pits them against real pros. The amateurs here are not trained or housed in a separate facility. Also the amateurs have a real chance of making a name for themselves though the people vs. The Pros Championship.

The second event of the People vs. The pros championship took place at the Pinehurst Resort. This time last year’s winner john Daly was defending his title and the Champions tour player was colorful Gary McCord. All the matches from the Grand Final were played on the great Pinehurst #2 site located at the 2005 U.S open. The championship was televised twice during prime time by ESPN. However, unfortunately both Daly as well as McCord managed to loose their matches.

The second event which was held in 2005 took place at the Barton Creek Resort and Spa located in Austin, Texas. The pros here from the PGA were Ben Crenshaw and Justin Leonard. The matches that took place for the Grand Prize took place on the Fazio Foothill course. Ben Crenshaw won the match which was a thrill to watch on the eighteenth hole to go one up and win. Justin Leonard also won 4&3. Both these matches could be classified as ‘edge of your seat matches’ since they were up against tough amateurs. If you look at the history of the People vs. The Pros Championship there were three matches that were won by amateurs and there were three which were also won by professionals. The concept that was proved here was that amateurs that have a fair handicap can go up against a pro and also win.

The fourth annual People vs. The Pros Championship later took place again at the Pinehurst Resort. The championship got a primetime broadcast on October 17th on ESPN. The pros that participated were a two time US open champion and the world no. 3 Retief Goosen. The great Retief managed to beat his armature opponent by a close 3 and 2 and Gary McCord who stated he cannot loose a match again managed to get his opponent on the eighteenth hole and then the final hole.

The fifth annual People vs. The Pros Championship was held at the Cabo Real Golf Club located in Los Cabos, Mexico. The championship was televised by ESPN2 on December 23 2008. Both the pros i.e. Tom Watson and Mr. DiMarco won their matches this time.
