Valero Texas Open Tickets
The Valero Texas Open is actually an official PGA Tour tournament and dates back to as far as 1922. The rights of the then named Texas Open was purchased by Valero Energy Corporation in 2002. The Valero Texas Open (the old name of the tournament) is played at the Resort Course located in La Cantera Golf Club in San Antonio. A year after the naming rights was purchased the La Cantera Golf Club wa where the 72 hole PGA Tour record by Tommy Armor III of 254 shots was established. Big name players such as Arnold Palmer, Sam Snead, and Ben Hogan have won here three years in a row. It has always been known as one of those tournaments where shooting low was quite easy.
The Valero Texas Open has always been played in San Antonio as well as a few variation of the Valero Texas Open. The Valero Texas open first began in 1940 and was played in Brackenridge park Golf Course except for the periods of 1927 and 1928 when the tournaments were played at willow Springs Golf Course. Later when the event was taken away from the Brackenridge Park GC it was played from 1941 to 1949 in Willow Springs GC. During the 1950 – 51 period the tournament was played at both Golf courses i.e. Brackenridge park GC and Willow Springs Golf Course and also Ft. Sam Houston Golf Course.
The Valero Texas Open then return back to Brackenridge Park GC except for the period between 1956-60, when it was played in the Ft. Sam Houston Golf Course. Then from 1967-1970 the Valero Texas Open was played at Pecan Valley Golf Club. From 1972 – 1976 the tournament was held at the Woodlack Golf Club prior to returning back to Oak hills CC for a long spell which ran from 1977 – 1994. However since 1995 the location of the Valero Texas Open has been the La Cantera GC. However there are plans to move the event to the AT&T Oaks Course at the TPC at San Antonio in 2010.
During the 2007 and 2008 Valero Texas Open the event was part of the PGA Tour Fall Series. This was because of the demise of the then regular season stop which was made in Atlanta. The PGA Tour was moved into the slot into the May schedule to become a regular FedEx cup event. The event featured in 2009 offered a large purse of $6.1 million which was an increase from the pervious $4.5 million, which a winner’s check of $1,098,000.
The Valero Texas Open is known to be one of the most exiting events on the Golf calendar. People from almost every part of the world come to attend this event. These events feature big names in the golfing industry including both new and old golfers. The stakes are high and the money offered is always rising which adds to the interested of the sport. However watching this event live is definitely better than watching it on Television.
