Chicago Cubs Tickets on Sale

The first thing on the agenda as the MLB heads into its winter months is for the Chicago Cubs to finish the courting and signing of Theo Epstein as general manager. The second will be for the sage to evaluate the talent on the Cubs roster.

The major free agents on the infield are third baseman Aramis Ramirez and first baseman Carlos Pena. Ramirez wants to play for a contender, so I doubt he will have the patience to wait while Esptein reloads the roster. Pena is a one dimensional hitter who swings for the fences. I could easily see both players walking away without an offer.

It would be nice for those with Chicago Cubs season tickets if Epstein could find a taker for Carlos Zambrano’s contract. The entire rotation could use some sprucing up. Matt Garze put together a good season, but the rest of the bunch were phenomenally disappointing. The only bright spot is that the bullpen looks set.

Chicago Cubs History

The Chicago Cubs have been a part of the National League since 1876 and have been looking for a World Series title since 1909. This is the cursed franchise dubbed the lovable losers. They had so much promise in the first half of the 20th century, but have floundered in the postseason, leaving many of the games greats a title short at the end of their career.

The Curse of the Billy Goat cast its spell on the Cubs after Billy Sianis was ejected because his goat had been soaked in the rain storm in Game 4 of the 1945 World Series at Wrigley Field and had begun to stink. The Tigers took the game and the series after starting the game up 2-1. Sianis said the Cubs would not return to the World Series while the played at Wrigley Field. There have many amusing and some grotesque attempts to break the curse.

At first the curse received little attention. After the regular season collapses in 1969, 1977, 1978, and 1979 and the postseason heartbreaks in 1984, 1989, 1998, 2003, 2007, and 2008, the belief in the curse is more powerful than ever. Whether it is the futility in the first round, a fan obstructing an easy out, or a June swoon, it all is blamed on the curse by the throngs of fans at Wrigley Field. TheSeats has the Chicago Cubs tickets for the new hope, for Theo Epstein’s mission to break a second curse and become the most beloved man in Chicago.
