The Florida Marlins, a Major League Baseball team based in Miami Gardens, FL, belong to the NL East Division and have played in Dolphin Stadium since 1993. Their name comes from the fish of the same name and they are nicknamed “the Fish.” They joined the NL as an expansion team in 1993. They are most notable for winning the World Series the two times they made it into the postseason (1997 and 2003), though they’ve never finished first in their division and have always been a Wild Card in the playoffs. Because of their attendance problems, the Marlins’ management threatened to move if they didn’t get a new stadium; but Miami-Dade and City of Miami commissioners and the team came to a deal: they would help build the new stadium on the site of the Orange Bowl as long as the team changed their name from the Florida Marlins to the Miami Marlins until 2046. The deal was approved by the City of Miami and Miami-Dade County on February 21, 2008. Their mascot is Billy the Marlin.

H. Wayne Huizenga, CEO of Blockbuster Entertainment Corp. announced on March 7, 1990 that he purchased half of Joe Robbie Stadium (later called Pro Player Park, then Pro Player Stadium, then Dolphins Stadium and, finally, Dolphin Stadium) along with 15% of the Miami Dolphins and wanted to acquire an expansion team. The National League awarded him the team for a $95 million expansion fee. He then immediately said he was going to convert Joe Robbie Stadium, home of the NFL’s Miami Dolphins, from a football-only stadium to a multipurpose one. He did buy the Dolphins and the stadium in 1994, though. He also wanted and received a waiver from MLB and ESPN to play games on Sunday nights. Because of the intense heat in South Florida during the summer, the team is forced to schedule almost all of their summer games at night. The Texas Rangers got a similar waiver and, until the Marlins’ establishment in ’93, they played in the hottest stadium in the majors.

As the members of the Eastern Division of Major League Baseball's National League the New York Mets are a professional baseball team established in 1962 in Flushing, Queens, in New York City, New York. From 1964 to the present, they have played in Shea Stadium and in 2009, they will move into their new home, Citi Field. The name "Mets" comes from the New York Metropolitans, an 1880s baseball club and they are nicknamed the "Amazin' Mets" or the "Amazin's". The owner of the team is Fred Wilpon and the menager is Willie Randolph. Their uniform colors are blue, orange, white and black and the logo is an interlocking N and Y with decorative serifs. Mr. Met is the teams mascot and their spring training facility is Tradition Field, Port St. Lucie, FL. In 1962 the Mets began their on-field play in the old Polo Grounds stadium, losing their first nine games to a 40-120 record. With a first place and a 100-62 record for the season, on September 9, 1969, the Mets finished their first winning year. The 1988 was also a winning year, after missing the playoffs in 1987, the Mets won 100 games for the 2nd time in 3 campaigns. After their success in 2006, there were high expectations for the Mets in 2007, and they started the season strong, but later became first team in MLB history to blow a lead of seven or more games with only 17 games to play.

The Florida Marlins are a professional baseball team formed in 1993 in Miami Gardens, Florida and they are in the Eastern Division of Major League Baseball's National League. From 1993 to the present, they have played in Dolphin Stadium. Their name "Marlins" comes from fish of the same name and that’s why they are nicknamed "the Fish". The Marlins uniform colors are black, teal, gray, and white and their logo is circle design with "FLORIDA" and "MARLINS" written around it. The teams mascot is Billy the Marlin. Roger Dean Stadium, Jupiter, FL is their spring training facility and is shared by the St. Louis Cardinals. Jeffrey Loria is the team owner and Fredi Gonzalez is the menager. In just five seasons after establishment, the Marlins won the World Series. In the 1997 World Series, the Marlins defeated Atlanta Braves and the Cleveland Indians but the next year was the worst record in the major leagues, followed the 1999 season with the worst record in baseball at 64-98. They are the only team to lose 100 games a year after winning the World Series. For the first time in franchise history, the Marlins had five ten-game winners on September 27, 2006 when Willis won 12 games. The 2007 season was opened with high hopes after the successful 2006 season and the Marlins had remained in the Wild Card race until mid-September before finishing a respectable 78-84.
