The Kansas City Royals are a MLB team based in Kansas City, MO and are members of the MLB’s American League Central Division. In 1973, they moved from Municipal Stadium to the then brand-new Royals Stadium (now known as Kauffman Stadium.) They also adopted their powder blue road uniforms in 1973 under Jack McKeon. The Royals’ name comes from the American Royal Livestock Show, which has been held in Kansas City since 1899. The “Royals” logo in script writing with the “s” tail underlining the word is reminiscent of the old Montreal Royals minor league team; and their nickname is “the Boys in Blue.” Their mascot is Slugerrr the lion, who made his 1st appearance on April 5, 1996. Slugerrr can be seen pitching in the “Little K” on game day and even firing hot dogs out of an air cannon into the stand between innings.

The club, founded by Ewing Kauffman, entered the majors as an expansion team in 1969 and was only established after Stuart Symington demanded a new franchise for the city after the Athletics (the city’s first major league team) moved to Oakland, CA. The Royals’ motto is “True. Blue. Tradition.” and as part of this motto, the Royals have introduced a new version of the classic powder blue uniforms for the 2008 season. They will wear them in weekend home games for the very 1st time at Kauffman Stadium.
