TheSeats has the Pittsburgh Pirate tickets to enjoy this exciting season at PNC Park.

Pittsburgh Pirates Tickets are on Sale

The Pittsburgh Pirates sit atop the division as a hitless wonder. The baseball team has scored the sixth-least runs in the league and has the sixth-best ERA. Somehow Manager Clint Hurdle has managed to make this equation work. With five-tool All Star Andrew McClutchen and a Cy Young candidate in James McDonald, the fans at PNC Park are finally enjoying a roster with enough talent to make a playoff run.

Centerfielder McClutchen is hitting an incredible .360 with a .412 OBP and 16 homeruns. Joining him in the batting order is first baseman Garrett Jones, third baseman Pedro Alvarez, and second baseman Neil Walker. Jones has some power with 12 homeruns and a decent .275 batting order. Alvarez has some pop with 15 homeruns. If only he could raise his batting average above .250, then he would not be an unknown man outside of Pittsburgh proper. Walker is hitting .275 with a .338 OBP. Neither are astounding stats, but they are enough to get on base the second most times.

Pittsburgh's pitching staff is much more than McDonald. McDonald has 11 quality starts in 16 games with a 2.45 ERA and 1.00 WHIP. A.J. Burnett has a very impressive 10 quality starts in 14 games and has a 3.74 ERA and 1.33 WHIP to go 9-2. Kevin Correia and Erik Bedard round out the likely postseason starting rotation. Joel Hanrahan is in his second season as closer. This season he is performing as well as last season. He has 21 saves in 24 games with a 2.53 ERA and a 1.09 WHIP. Jason Grilli, Jared Hughes, Juan Cruz, Brad Lincoln, and Chris Resop are dominating in the setup role.

Pittsburgh Pirates History

The Pittsburgh Pirates have been playing in the National League since it began in 1887. The five World Series titles and nine NL Pennants undersell just what this team has meant to the game of baseball. They boasted the play of early Hall of Fame players like Honus Wagner and the Waner brothers, Lloyd and Paul. However, the modern remembrance of Pirates greatness begins with right fielder Roberto Clemente.

Clemente had been a perennial MLB All Star since coming into the league in 1955. He was joined by left fielder Willie Stargell, catcher Manny Sanguillen, first baseman Bob Roberston, and third baseman Richie Hebner in the batting order and Dock Ellis and Steve Blass on the mound as the Pirates became "The Family" in the early 1970s. They won the World Series in 1971 and reached the playoffs from 1970 to 1972. The 1973 was spent in mourning after Clemente perished in a plane crash returning to Nicaragua for his annual trip back to give back to his homeland.

The Family recovered and added Dave Parker and Omar Moreno. The Pittsburgh Pirates regularly extended into the postseason and the Pirates claimed another World Series win in 1979, beating the Orioles in seven games for the second time that decade. That decade proved the best era for Pirates tickets, as the team has struggled to return to such greatness since.

Pittsburgh showed some promise with Barry Bonds, Andy Van Slyke, and Bobby Bonilla in the outfield, Jim Leyland on the bench, and Doug Drabek as the staff ace in the early 1990s, but free agency ended this run in 1993. The team has been building ever since, trading its players for prospects and it appears the baseball team is ready to play for the division again. TheSeats has the Pittsburgh Pirates tickets for the next season at PNC Park, so hurry and find your great seats to sit back and enjoy the return to glory.
