The Yankees have many nicknames from The Bronx Bombers, The Bombers, The Yanks, The Pinstripers, TheDamn Yankees, The Bronx Zoo and the Evil Empire. They have gone by the name New York Yankees since 1913 and before that they were the New York Highlanders and the Baltimore Orioles. The Yankees play at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx and have been playing there since 1976 and 2008 will be the last year before they begin playing in the new Yankee Stadium. The Yankees have been one of the best teams in MLB Baseball for most of the century winning 26 World Series titles and 39 AL Pennants and 15 East Division titles through 2008.

The owner of the Yankees since 1973 has been George Steinbrenner and he actually bought the team from CBS for $10 Million. Steinbrenner has always spent big money to make sure the team had the best players and coaches and all that money has paid off with the team being worth over a Billion Dollars today. Many of the games greatest players have played with the Yankees over the years. Such players as Reggie Jackson, Roger Clemens, Jason Giambi, Gary Sheffield, Johnny Damon, and Randy Johnson also so many old timers such as Billy Martin, Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Joe DiMaggio, Micky Mantle, Yogi Berra and too many other to name.

The biggest series every year is Yankees vs Red Sox at Yankee Stadium, Fans from NY and Boston fill up the stadium for what is always a fun and exciting series between these long time Rivals. 2008 is going to be an interesting year with new coach Joe Girardi replacing Joe Torre who had managed the Yankees to much success from 1996-2007. Torre will be coaching the Los Angeles Dodgers and I am sure there will be plenty of fire works when the Yankees battle there old Coach Joe.
