Texas Rangers

The Texas Rangers, an American baseball team based in Arlington, TX, are members of the MLB’s American League West Division and have played in Rangers ballpark since 1994. Their name comes from the illustrious law enforcement agency of the same name. Founded in 1961 in Washington, D.C., they were originally called the Washington Senators; though not to be confused with the Washington Senators who left D.C. after 1960 and became the Minnesota Twins. They moved to Arlington in 1972 and became the Rangers. They are one of four teams to have never played in a World Series and they never won a league championship. Their logo is a “T” overlaid in a baseball and set inside a circle with the word “Texas” on the top half and “Rangers” on the bottom half. Their team motto is “You could use some baseball.”

In 1968, the team was sold to hotel and trucking executive Bob Short, who beat out a group headed by Bob Hope. In April 1989, Eddie Chiles (then owner) sold the team to an investment group headed by future President of the United States, George W. Bush. Bush served as the Rangers’ managing partner until 1994, when he was elected Governor of Texas. The Rangers and City of Arlington decided to build a new stadium to replace Arlington Stadium, which was getting decrepit. On October 30, 1991, ground was broken on The Ballpark in Arlington; now called Rangers Ballpark in Arlington.

The Texas Rangers are an American professional baseball team established in 1961 in Washington, D.C and called Washington Senators and later moved to Arlington, Texas, United States in 1972 and became the Rangers. They are a member of the Western Division of Major League Baseball's American League and from 1994 to the present, they have played in Rangers Ballpark in Arlington. Their name "Rangers" comes from the famous law enforcement agency of the same name. The Rangers are one of four teams to have never played in a World Series, having never won a league championship. The team played its first game on April 15, 1972, with a 1-0 loss at the California Angels and the next day was their first victory, they defeated the Angels 5-1. The Rangers finished in last place in the 2003 season, and a little hope was held out for the Rangers to improve on their losing ways in 2004 season. The 2006 season ended with a disappointing 80-82 record and a third-place finish in the American League West and as a result of that on October 4 the Rangers dismissed Buck Showalter as manager with three years left on his contract and on November 6, announced that coach Ron Washington will be their new menager . Through the 2007 season, the Rangers have won 3,491 games and lost 3,976 over their history, equating to a .468 lifetime average.
