2008 Outlook

The Charlotte Bocats once again finished near the bottom of the Southeast Division and the Eastern Conference in the 2007-2008 season. The Bobcats hoped that the acquisition of shooting guard Jason Richardson before the season would result in the franchise’s first winning season, but the defense failed to improve for the season before. The Bobcats do have a talented young roster though. The team boasts solid power forward Emeka Okafor, tremendously athletic small forward Gerald Wallace, and solid point guard play from Raymond Felton.

Team History
The Charlotte Bobcats history is rather brief since the team was founded in 2004 as an expansion franchise for the NBA. The team filled the void left by the departed Hornets, who moved to New Orleans. The team is notable because it is one of the first professional sports teams to be owned by a prominent African-American ownership group that includes BET founder Robert L. Johnson, NBA legend Michael Jordan, and rapper Nelly.

The team began its existence by loading up on young talent. The Bobcats drafted under used small forward Gerald Wallace from the Kings in the 2004 expansion draft and traded up to build the team around defensive talent Emeka Okafor from UConn. The team would draft conservatively the next year, picking up Raymond Felton and power forward Sean May fresh off an NCAA title in 2005.

The next year the team took a chance on small forward Adam Morrison from Gonzaga. Critics questioned his battle with diabetes and his lack of athleticism, but the Charlotte Bobcats chose him for his tremendous college career. There has yet to be a return on the draft pick, but he did improve from a disastrous rookie year to average over 11 points in less than 30 minutes a game this past season.
