Los Angeles Lakers Tickets
The Los Angeles Lakers are not concerned with free agency, nor are they concerned with the 2010 NBA draft. They are concerned with taking the NBA Finals back to the Staples Center and giving fans with Lakers tickets a reason to comeback in 2010-2011 for a potential three-peat. This is a basketball team very much in the here and now, and a team built for multiple runs in the postseason with three stars ready to contribute with a revolving cast once the postseason is over.
The biggest concern for the Lakers actually has to be Phil Jackson. He has made it clear that his future is unclear. He may retire, he may take another coaching job, or he may remain put (if he is paid his near eight digit salary). The Lakers have to consider what he means to the team and decide if this team could win, or remain a cohesive basketball unit without him. He has the reputation to demand an exorbitant salary and is likely to follow through with such demands.
The Lakers have no cap space to speak of. They have a mid-level exception to use and two second round draft picks. The summer of 2010 is not going to bring about the addition of any exciting new players.
Los Angeles will have to make due with big three Kobe Bryant, Pau Gasol, and Lamar Odom; key rotation players Andrew Bynum and Ron Artest; and bench warmers Sasha Vujacic and Luke Walton. This leaves a number of players to possibly resign: Shannon Brown, Jordan Farmar, Derek Fisher, D.J. Mbenga, Adam Morrison, and Josh Powell. I expect to see Fisher back at the very least.
