Philadelphia 76ers Tickets
2008 Outlook
The Philadelphia 76ers’ late season push was fueled by a hard working team led by forward Andre Iguodala, veteran point guard Andre Miller, and the break through of lightening quick scorer Louis Williams. Many doubted that the 76ers would have enough talent to compete after trading Allen Iverson last season, but the team took advantage of a weak Eastern Conference and relied on an excellent work ethic for the late surge.
Team History
As of the Syracuse Nationals, the team, led by forward Dolph Schayes, won an NBA Championship in 1955. Struggles in the early 1960s to make money in the medium-sized city, the team moved to Philadelphia in 1963 to fill the void left by the departed Warriors a year earlier and were renamed the 76ers. The move and the signing of NBA legend from the Warriors in 1964 immediately turned the franchise around.
The Sixers would begin to challenge the dominant Celtics in Chamberlain’s first full year on the team. In the 1966-67 season, the 76ers would start the season 46-4 and finish with a 68-13 record. The record would remain the best until Michael Jordan and the Bulls would post a 72-win season in 1996. The Sixers team boasted one of the best lineups ever, with Wilt Chamberlain, Billy Cunningham, Hal Greer, Chet Walker, Lucious Jackson, and Wali Jones. That team would win the Sixers second NBA title that season.
Following the 1967-68 season the team traded Wilt Chamberlain to the Lakers and would struggle for the next eight seasons, until they acquired Julius Erving from the New Jersey Nets for the 1976-77 season. Dr. J and Moses Malone would take them to four championship series and come away the winner in 1983.
The Sixers have yet to win another championship, but have threatened several times with teams led by power forward Charles Barkely in the 80s and 90s and guard Allen Iverson in the 21st century. The best tickets to see Iguodala and the 76ers are available on TheSeats.com.
