Head Coach Dwane Casey has managed to improve the team defensive effort, allowing the 13th least points per game at 95.1. It has been the Raptors offense which has been lacking. It has not helped that Andrea Bargnani has been missing for about half the season. In his absence, Toronto has scored a mere 91.9 points per game, 26th in the NBA.

Shooting guard DeMar DeRozan has been the most consistent scoring force. DeRozan is no longer simply a slam dunk contestant, but a cornerstone for a team's offense. He is not putting up a terrific shooting percentage, but is the second leading scorer at 16.8 points a game. If general manager Bryan Colangelo is able to find someone to compliment Bargnani and DeRozan, then something special could be happening for the Raptors. It could be a big man, a small forward, or a point guard. This upcoming draft is particularly deep in the big men department. The prize possession is Anthony David, but fellow Wildcat, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, is as enviable a prospect.

The future is looking quite bright with Jose Calderon's contract coming to an end in a couple seasons, making him a trade asset next season or an amnesty candidate. Add another talented forward and the Toronto Raptors are a potential eight seed next season.

Toronto Raptors History

The Toronto Raptors franchise began playing in the NBA in 1995, becoming the second professional basketball franchise to join the league from Canada. They began their time as a middling club at the bottom of the Central Division. The addition of Vince Carter through the draft in 1998 led to playoff appearances just a couple of seasons later.

After three straight appearances, the Raptors began to become no shows in the postseason again. Carter wanted out and Chris Bosh came in as a power forward with a sweet jumper and phenomenal athleticism. Bosh has now departed and the franchise is looking for a new answer. TheSeats has Toronto Raptors tickets for the new season schedule at the Air Canada Centre to see the club turn it around.
