2007 Recap
The Arizona Cardinals ended the 2007 season with an 8-8 record and a second place finish in the NFC West. The Cardinals finished strong with a 5-3 record, but missed the playoffs.
The team finished with veteran QB Kurt Warner leading the offense, but still expect third-year pro Matt Leinart to be the quarterback of the future despite ending his season early with a broken collarbone. The cardinals appear loaded at skill positions on offense with Edgerrin James at running back and young talents Larry Fitzgerald and Anquan Boldin at wide receiver.
The Cardinals have been busy this offseason improving a defense that gave up 399 points last season. They placed the franchise tag on LB Karlos Dansby, signed LB Clark Hagan, and picked up DE Travis LeBoy. The Arizona Cardinals are expected to use their 16th pick in the 2008 draft to strengthen the secondary or add another defensive end, although the team is looking for a left tackle for the offensive line.
Team History
The Cardinals are the oldest professional football team, first playing in 1898 as the Morgan Athletic Club in Chicago. The Cardinals have moved around since the beginning, stopping in Racine, Chicago, St. Louis, and currently playing in Phoenix, Arizona.
The team has not had much success despite the long history, failing to win a Super Bowl and winning only two NFL Championships in 1925 and 1947, before the introduction of the Super Bowl. The team recently broke its streak of eight losing seasons with an 8-8 Record in 2007. The Cardinals have a great deal of young talent and hope to have their first winning season in ten years in 2008.
