2007 Recap
The Jacksonville Jaguars began the transition to the David Garrard era at quarterback with an 11-5 record and division playoff loss to the Super Bowl runner-ups, the New England Patriots. The Jaguars finished second in the toughest division in the NFL, the AFC South.
The team relied on banged-up QB Garrard to earn an impressive 102.2 QB rating, passing for 18 touchdowns and only throwing 3 picks. His supporting cast included a re-energized Fred Taylor, who ran for 1,202 yards; RB Maurice Jones-Drew, the future running back of the franchise; and an underrated group of receivers. The Jaguars are looking to improve the team’s defense in the 2008 draft after surrendering 19 points a game. The defensive needs have not stopped the Jaguar front office from strengthening the offensive line with tackle Maurice Williams and attempt to add some quickness to the no-name receiving core with WR Jerry Porter.
Team History
The Jacksonville Jaguars joined the NFL in 1995 with the Carolina Panthers as expansion teams. The Jaguars found almost immediate success, posting a 4-12 record in 1995 and then following with four straight playoff appearances and reaching the AFC Championship game twice.
The team that built so well appeared to have troubles after trading starting QB Mark Brunell to Redskins in 2004 in favor of QB Byron Leftwich, who never emerged as the franchise quarterback he was supposed to be. The team appears set for the future though, with QB David Garrard and RB Maurice Jones-Drew.
