2007 Recap
The Miami Dolphins finished with an abysmal 1-15 record, finishing last in the AFC East. The team was characterized by a weak defense, giving up 17.3 points a game, and ineffectual offense, scoring 16.7.
The team is searching for a starting quarterback after trading former starter Cleo Lemon for a draft pick and receiver. The Dolphins have the first draft pick and have the chance to draft QB Matt Ryan out of Boston College, but may stick with John Beck, who took over at the end of last season. The Dolphins appear set at running back with Ronnie Brown, who rushed for 602 yards before injury put him out of action for the rest of the season after week seven. The team needs to find a strong receiving core and improve the defense drastically, which they have tried to do in a busy offseason.
Team History
The Miami Dolphins do have something no other team can claim, the perfect season. The Dolphins went 17-0 in 1972, going 14-0 in the regular season and defeating the Washington Redskins 14-7. The team was led by QB Bob Griese, RB Larry Czonka, RB Mercury Morris, and WR Paul Warfield. Head Coach Mike Shula and the Dolphins continued to dominate in the 70s posting winning records all but one year and winning another Super Bowl in 1973.
The Dolphins have since had some success in the 80s and 90s, but most notably were led by Hall of Fame quarterback Dan Marino. Dan Marino started playing in 1983, retired in 1999, and set records for yards, touchdowns and completions that would later be surpassed by Brett Farve.
