Colorado Avalanche Tickets

Colorado Avalanche tickets are on sale for a franchise whose general manager did not waver when he decided to begin the rebuilding process. This boldness will work to the hockey team's advantage, as the Avs spent the first half of last season as a true contender being led by the young talent that returns for the 2011-2012 season. TheSeat has the Colorado Avalanche tickets for the Pepsi Center this year.

General Manager Greg Sherman makes no qualms about building a team around the young trio of center Matt Duchene, right wing David Jones and center Paul Stastny. These three were stellar before injuries and disappointment plagued the second half of last season. With these three in place the Avalanche went about building a new blue line, finding a duo to split time in goal, and adding the right accents to the front line to compliment the three stars.

The blue line will enjoy the exploits of Jan Hejda, Shane O'Brien and Erick Johnson. None of these players can alone replace Michael Liles and his ability to move the puck in transition, but the trio makes the line tougher, which perhaps trumps the need for assists from the back line. The Colorado Avs also need this trio to provide plenty of interference as goalies Semyon Varlamov and Jean-Sebastien Giguere figure out who is the first choice.

Colorado could see some very interesting play from the wings on the front line. Specifically, the Avalanche are giving rookie left wing Gabriel Landeskog a chance to play immediately. Forward Chuck Kobasew is another potential 20-goal scorer from the wings and center Jay McClement can lead the fourth line. If the talent truly emerges as the front office hopes, the front line could go down in history as one of the great stories in a quick rebuild as the Avalanche have a true hope of ascending in the Northwest Division and the Western Conference, perhaps earning a Stanley Cup playoff berth.

Colorado Avalanche History

The Colorado Avalanche began its franchise history as the Quebec Nordiques in the World Hockey Association back in 1972. They enjoyed a run of success that included a league championship and another finals appearance in the eight seasons they played in the league. This team survived the merger and joined the NHL, becoming one of the smallest market teams in the league. That fact would doom the franchise eventually, but the Nordiques began its time in the NHL as a rather competitive team. They made the playoffs seven times in the first eight seasons.

The journey to become the Colorado Avalanche started with the dreadful era between 1987 and 1994. The Quebec Nordiques were in contention for last place and the worst record in the NHL annually, winning this inglorious honor three times. COMSAT purchased the team and moved them to Denver, changing the name to the Avalanche. The move suited the team, who had the pieces for a future Stanly Cup run in forward Joe Sakic, forward Peter Forsberg, and defenseman Adam Foote. The addition of goalie Patrick Roy meant the first season in the new city would result in the franchise's first Stanley Cup. The Avs swept the Florida Panthers in the championship and endeared themselves to the fan base.

This core became consistent contenders, ultimately returning to the Stanley Cup in 2001 and winning a tough seven-game series with the Philadelphia Flyers. The Colorado Avalanche have slowly been on the descent since, and have now entered a rebuilding period. TheSeats has Colorado Avalanche tickets for the new season schedule for games at the Pepsi Center for what promises to be a short rebuilding process.
