Ottawa Senators

Ottawa Senators Tickets

The Senators in the midst of a six game winning streak, and currently hold second place in the Northeast Division and fifth in the Eastern Conference, with 60 points based on their 28-21-4 record. With an offense that is spread evenly amongst their three top scorers – rightwing Daniel Alfredson (14 goals) who leads the team with 40 points and 26 assists, center Mike Fisher (39 points, 17 goals) who leads the team with 22 assists, and rightwing Alexei Koyalev (36 points – 12 goals, 24 assists) – Ottawa will be looking to solid defense and goalkeeping in order to remain as serious contenders for the playoffs in March.

Six straight wins for Ottawa, and center Jason Spezza is back from injury after missing 22 games! Spezza (31 games, 20 points – 6 goals, 14 assists) scored the game-winning goal in his first game back, and maybe his time on the sidelines gave him some perspective on his previous offensive shortcomings, while the Senators will be looking for more than the five goals and 19 points he provided in the 30 games before his injury.

The Sens have been playing musical goalies for much of the second half of the season so far, and really need to find some consistency in that area of the game if they wish to remain a playoff contender; number one net-minder Brian Elliot has appeared in 30 games, while backup Pascal Leclaire has seen action in 26, leaving Ottawa near the top of the NHL in number of times they have switched goaltenders mid-game. Neither Elliot (14-11-3, 2.67 GAA, .903 save %) nor Leclaire (11-10-1, 3.07 GAA, .890 save %) have shined between the pipes more than the other, but at least one of them needs to get hot soon and take solid hold of the goalkeeper reins if this team has intentions of going deep into the playoffs.

Consistency is the key if Ottawa is to be considered a serious playoff contender in the Eastern Conference, and in turn giving their passionate fans a team they have been looking for since the team’s loss in the Stanley Cup Finals three years ago.
