The perceived dominance of the United States in Track and Field appears to be in jeopardy. At the 2004 Olympic Games the U.S. Olympic Team Track and Field squad took 25 medals again finishing first. The Russians were not far though, with 20 medals.

The 2008 Olympic Games promise to see if that gap has closed any. The U.S. squad used to be head and shoulders above the rest of the world, but as the world has become smaller so has that gap.
