The Duke blue Devils are the athletic teams of the Duke University. The Blue Devils represent the university in the Atlantic Coast Conference of the NCAA Division I. The Duke University is located in Durham, North Carolina. It was founded in the city of Trinity in the year 1838 but in 1892, it was moved to Durham. The university has given its sports team the nickname, Blue Devils.
The Duke Blue Devils football team was founded in the 1890s. In 1938, the Devils were a prominent team in American collegiate football. Wallace Wade was the head coach of the team during that time. They had also been successful in the 1950s through 1960s. They had won six ACC championships in between 1953 and 1962 under then coach Bill Murray. Steve Spurrier was also a successful coach, who had headed the team in the 1980s. David Cutcliffe is the current head coach of the Duke Blue Devils. He had joined the team on December 14, 2007. Earlier, he had coached the football team in the University of Mississippi. He has also coached some of the notable American football players like Heath Shuler, Peyton Manning and Eli Manning.
The Wallace Wade Stadium is home to the Duke Blue Devils. The stadium was inaugurated on October 5, 1929 as the Duke Stadium. In the year 1967, it was renamed as the Wallace Wade Stadium, after the legendary Duke football coach, Wallace Wade. It has a total seating capacity for 33,941 people. The stadium was the site for the 1942 Rose Bowl Game. It had also played host to the Rolling Stones concert in 2005.
