The Wildcats is the nickname for the sports teams of Kansas State University. The University is officially known as the Kansas State University of Agriculture and Applied Science. It was established in the year 1863 and is located in Manhattan, Kansas. Dr. Jon Wefald is the president of the Kansas State University. The University is a member of the Big 12 Conference and its sports teams compete in the NCAA Division I.
The Kansas State Wildcats men's basketball team joined the NCAA Division I in its 23rd tournament in 1902. The team has reached the Final Four 4 times, the Elite Eight 11 times and the Sweet Sixteen 16 times in its history. The 1959 season can be said to have been the best season for the team, when they finished the season by holding the number 1 rank in the Associated Press Poll. In the year 2005, Street & Smith listed the Kansas State Wildcats men's basketball team at # 22 rank among the 100 greatest basketball programs of all-time.
The Ahearn Field House was the original arena of the Kansas State Wildcats men's basketball team. But, the present arena called Fred Bramlage Coliseum that was inaugurated on October 21, 1988 replaced it. It is a multi- purpose arena with a seating capacity for 12,528 spectators. Apart from the basketball teams of Kansas State University, the arena also hosts various events such as musical & comical performances, trade shows, speeches and commencement ceremonies. It has also been home to the Kansas State High School Activities Association Class 2A boys and girls state championship tournaments since 1990. ? Frank Martin is the head coach of the basketball team in the Kansas State University. Bob Huggins remained the coach of the team from 2006 till 2007.
