The Nebraska Cornhuskers men's basketball team represents the University of Nebraska–Lincoln. This land-grant university was established under the provision of the Morrill Act in the year 1869. It is often known as the UNL or Nebraska and it is located in Lincoln. The university is a member of the Big 12 Conference and its athletic teams compete in the NCAA Division I.

The Cornhuskers is the nickname given to the athletic teams of the University of Nebraska–Lincoln. Earlier they were also known by several other nicknames such as the Hawkeyes, the Antelopes, the Old Gold Knights, the Bugeaters and the Mankilling Mastodons. Herbie Husker and Lil' Red are the two official mascots of the Cornhuskers. :

The Nebraska Cornhuskers men's basketball team entered the NCAA tournament in 1986. They have never won either a single NCAA tournament or a Big 12 Conference title. Danny Nee was the head coach of the team from 1987 till 2000. During his tenure the team saw much of its success. In that period, they made six NCAA Tournament appearances, six bids to the National Invitation Tournament, including the 1996 NIT Championship. Doc Sadler is the men's basketball team's current head coach in the University of Nebraska–Lincoln.

Bob Devaney Sports Center is the home arena to The Nebraska Cornhuskers men's basketball team. The arena was inaugurated on November 27, 1976 and was named after former Nebraska football coach and athletic director Bob Devaney. It is also home to the Cornhuskers gymnastics, indoor track & field and swimming & diving teams. It features a total of 13,595 seating capacity during the basketball tournaments.
