The Horned Frogs’ football team began play in 1896, when the school was still known as AddRan College and has won 2 national championships: one in 1935 and the other in 1938; the team has also gotten 14 conference championships. There have been a lot of notable players for TCU like Sammy Baugh, Davey O’Brien, Bob Lilly, Aaron Schobel and LaDainian Tomlinson. The team’s home games are played on campus at Amon G. Carter Stadium, which opened in 1930 and has a capacity of 44,008. Their current coach is Gary Patterson, who has been with them since 2000 and has led them to a record if 62-25 and 4 bowl game victories in 7 appearances. Under coach Butch Meyer, they competed in and won the first Cotton Bowl Classic; and they’ve won 2 Sugar Bowls. From 1942 to 1998, they went on an 11 bowl game losing streak. Besides the first Cotton Bowl, TCU has played in other inaugural bowls like the Bluebonnet, Mobile Alabama and both the Fort Worth Classic and Fort Worth Bowl games.
