Chicago - The Musical Tickets
Chicago is a devilishly delightful musical tale of murder, greed, corruption, violence, exploitation, adultery, and treachery – all the things you want for an evening of song and dance. Return to the days of prohibition in Chicago and enjoy the two lighthearted and vivacious murderesses Roxie Hart and Velma Kelly, their smooth talking lawyer Billy Flynn, and the legendary choreography of Bob Fosse.
An indisputable Broadway landmark, although Chicago utilizes minimal scenery and simple costumes, it is filled with one big musical act after another, while John Kander and Fred Ebb’s classic score keeps the story moving at a very rapid pace. With moves that are still as sexy and steamy today as they were with the debut of Chicago in 1975, the dancers are seemingly tipping their bowler hats in tribute to the original choreography of Bob Fosse. For a show that is full to the brim with dirty deeds, Chicago provides audiences with a really great experience, all while poking fun at the entire situation.
Set in prohibition era Chicago, the music of John Kander and lyrics of Fred Ebb are based on a book by Ebb and Bob Fosse, providing a satirical look at corruption in the criminal justice system when dealing with celebrity criminals. Chicago is based on a 1926 play of the same name by reporter Maurine Dallas Watkins about actual criminals and crimes she had reported on.
The original production of Chicago debuted on Broadway on June 3, 1975 at the 46th Street Theatre, where it remained for a total of 936 performances. Bob Fosse choreographed the original production, and his style is definitely identified with the show. Chicago's 1996 return to Broadway holds the record for the longest-running musical revival and is the seventh longest-running show in the history of Broadway, having played more than 5,000 performances. The revival was also followed by a production on London's West End, several tours and international productions, and a critically acclaimed Academy Award-winning film version of the musical in 2002.
While Chicago may be simple in its presentation, children who appreciate Broadway will certainly react to the non-stop theatrical excitement of this long-running hit. While the show’s hot topics do include violence, adultery, and some off-color dialogue, it is all presented in such a way that keeps it fairly tame in comparison to much of what can be found on television nowadays.
Whether you are looking for just a couple’s night out, something for the whole family to enjoy together, or have a group of Broadway-loving fans, get your Chicago tickets now and experience the classic hit at the Ambassador Theatre in New York.
