What It All About?

West Side Story is the classic tale of star-crossed lovers (ala Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet) on the gang-filled streets of New York City in the 1950s. Tony is the All-American boy, caught up in the street gang The Jets (led by Riff). Their rival gang is a group of Puerto Rican immigrants, The Sharks (led by Bernardo). Bernado’s younger sister Maria falls in love with Tony, and well, the rest is history. Leonard Bernstein and Stephen Sondheim, the great composer, wrote the gorgeous score, which features the tunes: “Maria”, “Somethings Coming”, “Tonight”, “America”, “One Hand, One Heart”, and “Somewhere”. This revival is directed by the show’s original book writer, Arthur Laurents. Laurents recently directed the hit revival of Gypsy, which he also wrote, starring Patti LuPone. The original direction and choreography is by Jerome Robbins. Robbins is known as one of the greatest Broadway choreographer of all time, and his work is meticulously recreated for this revival. Full dance sequences such as “Dance At The Gym”, “The Jets Song”, “Cool”, and others thrill audiences night after night. This production is at the famous Palace Theatre in New York City.

Who’s Who?

This cast features a group of young, incredibly talented Broadway dancer, singers and actors. Karen Olivo won a Tony Award for her acclaimed performance as Anita. Josefina Scaglione is Maria, and was nominated for a Tony Award for her beautiful work. Scaglione is a young singer/actress from Argentina, and was cast after the director saw her singing on YouTube. These powerful women lead the show, and stun audiences with their rendition of “A Boy Like That/I Have A Love”, “America”, “I Feel Pretty”, and others.
