White Christmas Tickets
A musical based on the 1954 Paramount Pictures film of the same name, White Christmas is the story of two showbiz buddies putting on a show in a picturesque Vermont inn and, in the end, finding their perfect mates. In addition to the ageless title song, White Christmas also includes such other beloved songs as Count Your Blessings Instead of Sheep, and Sisters.
As an all-new stage adaptation of the classic Irving Berlin film, an updated White Christmas arrives on Broadway, updated with additional Berlin songs such as Blue Skies, I Love a Piano, How Deep Is the Ocean, and several old-fashioned production numbers featuring the huge cast and a whole lot of tap dancing. Regardless of the title, the story is more about friendship and love than the magic of the holidays, and may not be as much about Christmas as many would think. However, others may find its subtle holiday message to be a pleasant change of pace. Either way, this production definitely looks and feels a lot like Christmas.
White Christmas originally played a limited engagement on Broadway at the Marquis Theatre, starting with previews on November 14, 2008, and running through January 4, 2009, for a total of 12 previews and 53 performances. The musical has since returned to the Marquis Theatre, and is running in another limited engagement from November 13, 2009 through January 3, 2010. With Walter Bobbie and Randy Skinner returning to handle the direction and choreography, the cast is scheduled to include James Clow as Bob Wallace, Mara Davi as Judy Haynes, Melissa Errico as Betty Haynes, Tony Yazbeck as Phil, David Ogden Stiers as General Henry Waverly, and Ruth Williamson as Martha Watson. This production is also in the middle of a U.S. national tour, which began in Omaha, Nebraska on November 1, 2009, and scheduled to end in Kansas City, Missouri on January 5, 2010.
White Christmas received two 2009 Tony Award nominations for Best Choreography and Best Orchestrations, and also received 2009 Drama Desk Award nominations for Outstanding Director of a Musical, Outstanding Choreography, Outstanding Orchestrations, Outstanding Set Design of a Musical, Outstanding Costume Design, and Outstanding Sound Design.
This updated version of White Christmas still qualifies as safe, old-fashioned, Broadway entertainment for the whole family. In addition to Berlin’s catchy tunes, there is also a lot to enjoy with your eyes – colorful sets, elaborate song-and-dance sequences, and a blanket of snow that falls in the auditorium as the final curtain falls.
