Young Frankenstein is a musical based on the 1974 comedy film of the same name, with a book by Mel Brooks and Thomas Meehan and music and lyrics by Brooks. The film is written by Brooks and Gene Wilder and directed by Brooks and it’s a parody of the horror film. In April 2006, Brooks and Meehan began work on their new musical “Young Frankenstein” which began previews on Broadway on October 11, 2007 and opened on November 8 at the Hilton Theatre. It was inspired of the Frakenstein legend, the story follows bright young Dr. Frankenstein and his attempts to complete his grandfather’s masterwork and bring a corpse to life.
He succeeds in creating a monster with the help of his oddly shaped and endearing helper Igor and curvaceous lab assistant Inga. The plot is largely carried over from the movie, except the ending is quite different. Decca Broadway released the musical's original cast album on December 26, 2007 and it was third on the Billboard Top Cast Album chart in the beginning of January 2008. Young Frankenstein is the brainchild of the team behind the record-breaking Broadway sensation The Producers, five-time Tony winner Susan Stroman, three-time Tony Winner Mr. Brooks and three-time Tony winner Thomas Meehan.
