Gem Theatre is a locally-celebrated hall that has a off-Broadway performance in residence nearly all season long. Those plaies remain for runs that last only a few months, but still manage to allow for multiple artistic performances to be scheduled each month. Instead of internationally-renowned actors and actresses like a Harold Scott or a Caissie Levy, Gem Theatre’s artistic performances generally have new talents playing the main character.

Originally known as The Dancer, the playhouse changed its name to Gem Theatre when Preston Neilson took over ownership in 1965. The auditorium’s design was inspired by a theatre the owner liked in Firenze. Gem Theatre has since become the preferred locale locally.
