The Rose Garden, also known as the Rose Garden Arena, is the main closed door sports arena in Oregon, built to accommodate events of all types, including ice hockey, basketball, concerts and conventions, located on 1 Center Court, Portland, Oregon 97227.
It was opened in October, 1995, owned by Vulcan Inc., operated by Global Spectrum, and designed by Ellerbe Becket and Drake/Turner with construction costs reaching $262 million, and capacity of 20,630 for basketball and 18,280 for hockey and lacrosse. It is the home of the Portland Trail Blazers of NBA, Portland Winter Hawks of WHL and Portland LumberJax of NLL. In 2004, the Rose Quarter hosted Vans Invitational, an event which was part of the Dew Action Sports Tour. The arena was also the host of the 2005 U.S. Figure Skating Championships, an event which was attended by more than 100,000 fans.
Two years later, the Rose Garden hosted the 2007 NLL All Star game, and in 2008 the Garden was the host of the finals for the Big Sky basketball tournament. More prominent events which are not associated with sports include the Portland State commencement ceremony in 1998, where the former U.S. President Bill Clinton was the keynote speaker, and two years later the Garden hosted a Roger Waters concert and will be hosting the WWE No Mercy 2008.
