The Winter Olympics are coming to Vancouver this February, making this the third Canadian city to host an Olympic event. Montreal hosted the Summer Games in 1976 and Calgary hosted the Winter Games in 1988. Vancouver is glad to bring the international community to British Columbia with 2010 Winter Olympics tickets and finally give this city a chance to earn some acclaim.
Vancouver won the right to compete as the Canadian representative for the 23rd Winter Olympics in 1998 and beat out PyeongChang, South Korea and Salzburg, Austria to the games at the International Olympic Committee on July 2, 2003 in Prague.
The celebrated multi-sport athletic competition will bring 2,500 athletes from more than 80 nations to participate in 86 sports. These events are categorized as ice sports, alpine sports, or Nordic events. Ice sports include competitions like figure skating and the bobsled. Alpine includes the downhill skiing events. Nordic events include competitions like cross country skiing and the biathlon.
The events will be held at venues constructed throughout the city of Vancouver and the neighboring city of Whistler. The Winter Games will open on February 12 at the BC Place Stadium and end with closing ceremonies on February 28 at the same venue. 2010 Winter Olympics tickets are available through The Seats to see every event during the 23rd Winter Games.
Curling is a team game with similarities to bowls and shuffleboard, played by two teams of four players each on a rectangular sheet of carefully prepared ice. Teams take turns sliding heavy, polished granite stones down the ice towards the target (called the house). Two sweepers with brooms accompany each rock and use timing equipment and their best judgment, along with direction from their teammates, to help direct the stones to their resting place. The complex nature of stone placement and shot selection has led some to refer to curling as "chess on ice.
